One year after the release of Oniromancie, her critically acclaimed third album, Laurence-Anne is back with Melancolía, a dreamy new single sung in Spanish. This release will be followed by a short Mexican tour which will take place from November 1st to 7th, including a set at Hipnosis, Mexico City’s renowned psychedelic rock and pop festival. This will be the artist’s second tour in the country this year. After that, she will open for Peter Peter at Club Soda in Montreal on November 23rd.
As its title implies, Melancolía expresses a nostalgic melancholy, the end of something that was beautiful and will remain so despite its demise. Laurence-Anne compares this powerful feeling to dawn and dusk, the cycles of luminosity that drive our lives. Light inevitably affects our mood. Our emotions are tinted in different ways, like the colours in the sky. I've always found a beautiful glow emanating from melancholy, she explains. Things change, disappear and are reborn like light every day.
The song was composed, arranged and co-produced by Laurence-Anne alongside co-producer François Zaïdan. True to her love of unconventional textures, the singer-songwriter was happy to incorporate two of her favourite instruments into the song: the recorder and the steel drum.
