One week before her show at Montreal’s Taverne Tour festival, Laurence-Anne unveils an eerie music video for Vitesse, the lead single from Oniromancie, her third album released via Bonsound last September. She seizes the opportunity to announce a Mexican tour, which will take place in February and March 2024.
Directed by Didier Pigeon-Perreault, the music video shows Laurence-Anne anxiously attending a rodeo event that gets weirder as the bad vibes become increasingly difficult to ignore. Oneirism and realism are the two worlds I wanted to bring together in the video, says the director. Coming from a cinematographic practice that mixes documentary and fiction to confuse the viewer between what's real and what's fake, I wanted to work with real footage while using a visual style that comes close to fiction.
The video’s monochrome color scheme, peculiar setting and frantic pace mirror the stress, anxiety and darkness channeled by the song. That's why I decided to set the action in a rodeo that looks neither Québécois nor American, a place of which the identity remains unclear, adds Didier. Laurence-Anne is witnessing a show that’s trying to get under her skin, but she can't figure out whether it's for good or evil.
Laurence-Anne will play at L’Esco in Montreal as part of Taverne Tour on February 8th. After that, she will go to Mexico for a series of concerts, including a performance at FIMPRO in Guadalajara on February 28th. This short tour will also take her to Mexico City, Aguascalientes and Querétaro. See the list below for all tour dates, including more shows in Quebec.
