Montreal-based singer/DJ Pierre Kwenders returns in an explosion of electro and Congo rumba from with his remix EP for his single Popolipo, available today on Bandcamp, iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify.
The lead remix comes courtesy of Portuguese-Angolan collective Throes + The Shine, who’ve earned positive reviews from VICE, Les InRocks and SPIN. The quintet’s kuduro-infused take on Popolipo exemplifies both Kwenders’ and Throes + The Shine’s unique clash of cultures.
Critically acclaimed producer Jumping Back Slash follows with his insistent percussion-based spin on the track, showcasing his credentials as a frontrunner of the explosive South African house movement Gqom. Live African dance music project Afriquoi then offer up an irresistibly upbeat rework with a funk-inspired bass riff, before Sjamsoedin’s dark, intense take on the original track rounds off the collection with distorted vocals, schizophrenic percussion and deep synths reminiscent of Kavinsky.
Don’t miss the second edition of Wakanda Club featuring Kwenders (DJ set) and other artists this Saturday, April 16th at 129 Van Horne in Montreal! More details on the Facebook Event.
