Today, Population II releases their single Beau baptême, after signing with Bonsound’s label, booking and publishing rosters this past winter. This is the Montreal-based trio’s first single since they put out their album À la Ô Terre via Castle Face Records in 2020.
Beau baptême is an expression of the psychological journey around inspiration and explores the very genesis of ideas, how they are born, and the opinions they generate. Drummer/vocalist/lyricist Pierre-Luc Gratton sings emphatically about how writing can sometimes happen with ease and spontaneity, and sometimes require a long, deep reflection.
With restraint and maturity, Beau baptême follows a typical song structure (verses, chorus and bridge) without neglecting the frenetic dynamics for which the Montreal-based band is known. Population II showcases great control of their explosive sound, and the new single bears witness to the band's true rock nature.
On Friday, June 2nd, Population II will be performing at a secret location in Montreal (postponed to Sunday, June 4th in case of rain). Follow the band on Instagram for full details on the day of the event. In July, the trio will travel to the U.S. for shows in Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Boston, before returning in the fall for five dates supporting the American band Osees.
