Bringing together previously unreleased songs from different eras, Nouveau monde is by no means an album of outtakes. With an ingeniously casual approach, Personne gave his older songs a new twist in the studio, to create a laid-back album with no pressure or expectations, other than to rediscover the simple pleasure of making music. He had just recorded Mimi with Corridor, a demanding process, when he started working on this record. With Nouveau monde, he aimed for the opposite experience, and ultimately ended up with an easy, spontaneous and naïve album.
