Montreal-based singer-songwriter Sophia Bel releases Shades of Blue, an ethereal song at the crossroads of trip hop, dream pop and electro. Like Serotonin released earlier this fall, Shades of Blue is taken from the deluxe version of Anxious Avoidant, which includes six new tracks and will be released on February 10th, 2023 via Bonsound.
Composed alongside her producer friends CRi and Tim Buron, Shades of Blue is a throwback to the electronic sound of Sophia Bel's previous EPs. The track originated a few winters ago thanks to CRi's vintage drum machine, before being enriched with organic sounds to bridge the gap between Bel's trip hop phase and the pop punk sounds of her album Anxious Avoidant. I wanted to include the song in the deluxe edition because I thought it was the perfect moment to branch out of my current musical world and showcase some fun collaborations, says the singer-songwriter.
The original version of Anxious Avoidant received critical acclaim from several publications upon its release last April, including Exclaim!, Le Devoir, Le Canal auditif and EUPHORIA. With the release of the deluxe version, Sophia Bel wishes to broaden the musical palette of the record, demonstrating the breadth of her influences.
