Just before the launch of her new album, Lisa LeBlanc unveils Gossip, a funky song that embodies the essence of Chiac Disco. The Acadian singer-songwriter also premiered the song on Tout le monde en parle last Sunday during a stunning performance. This is Lisa’s fourth record in her career, and marks her return to francophone music 10 years after the release of her self-titled debut album. The album is out this Friday, March 18th via Bonsound.
It was while writing Gossip that the idea of marrying Chiac and disco came to be, setting the tone for what would become Lisa LeBlanc’s new album. Encapsulating Chiac Disco's signature sound, the track is driven by a cyclical melody and enhanced by a flashy production inspired by the exuberance of the 70s. A pounding bass line, a dynamic saxophone solo and a vibraslap completes the song, giving it a distinctly funky feel. With some of Lisa's favourite lyrics off this new album, Gossip is an open love letter to Rogersville, Rosaireville, and Acadie as a whole.
Gossip is accompanied by a satirical music video directed by Alexandre Pelletier. Surrounded by a DIY retro aesthetic, Lisa plays a waitress who’s hungry for local gossip from her customers. It's a song about gossiping at Tim Horton's, so we wanted to visualize it in a friendly and humorous way, explains the director. Inspired by James Di Salvio's music videos for Jean Leloup, we went for a very DIY approach. The roles are played by three children, the sets are made of cardboard and the humour is very cartoonish. We had a lot of fun doing it!
Lisa LeBlanc will perform at MTELUS on June 16 as part of the Francos de Montréal and tickets are on sale now. About 30 other shows across Quebec are also announced for 2022. Visit lisaleblanc.ca or check the list below for all the dates.
